We’re thrilled to have you take part in this opportunity to connect with UF College of Medicine alumni for meaningful, one-on-one career conversations. These 30-minute Zoom sessions are designed to be informal and student-driven. Your goal is simple: learn from someone who’s been where you are. Here’s how to make the most of your session.
Before the conversation
- Be Curious: Take time to explore your mentor’s bio and specialty in advance.
- Prepare: Jot down a few questions or themes you’d like to explore.
- Be On Time & Professional: Show up on time, dress appropriately (Zoom-appropriate), and show engagement.
- Relax: These conversations are informal and supportive—your mentor is here to help.
Suggested questions & conversation starters
- What inspired you to choose your specialty?
- What’s something you wish you’d known in medical school?
- What does a “typical day” look like in your field?
- What were your biggest challenges during residency or early practice?
- What kinds of skills or habits helped you succeed?
- If you could do it all again, what would you do differently?
- Ask about life outside of work—how they balance career and well-being.
Pro Tip: Don’t try to force a deep conversation. These chats are just the beginning. You may continue the connection later through email or the Gator Network if mutually interested.
